Rhodonite Lapidary Rough Rock
Rough Rock Thumbnail Image Page
Unpolished rough rock specimens of Rhodonite, ready for cutting, carving, and polishing. This usually massive rock takes its name from the Greek "rodon," meaning rose, because of its rosy coloring, which ranges from a light red to a rose red. Transparent to opaque, it often contains black veins or splotches or dendrites of pyrolusite, a manganese oxide. Rhodonite comes from many locales and these pieces are most likely from Colorado.
