The rock bird carvings depicted below are composites. Many different kinds of rock, manganocalcite, serpentine, chrysocolla, sodalite, and rhodochrosite, are carved into specific shapes - beaks, body, wings, tails - then fitted together to form a carving composite. Each is unique in coloration, some have painted highlights, and each carved bird perches upon a rock base. These composite bird carvings come from talented lapidary artisans in Peru.
